Dabba does Dallas

A couple of weekends ago, I had my future sister in law, Meg, come in town to stay with Roman and me. Meg is engaged to Mike and they live in Boulder. Mike is also a pilot, so while the boys were flying, the girls hung out! Saturday morning we took Roman to the Galleria to see the ice skaters and the huge Christmas tree. He did great and loved it!

Roman has a new obsession... a metal 1 cup measuring cup, called Dabba. I really didn't think much about it, until he HAD to take it with him inside the mall and the passing shoppers were staring at us! Roman takes Dabba everywhere! Roman bathes with Dabba, eats with Dabba, and sleeps with Dabba. I used to take Dabba away in the middle of the night. That stopped when he cried out for Dabba at 2 am. The only problem is that we need a new measuring cup! I can't get it away from Roman! The only time he doesn't get Dabba is if he is at church or at school. I certainly don't want any kids getting accidentally hit with a metal measuring cup!! Here are some pics of Roman and Dabba at the mall!

Dabba loves the Christmas lights and big red balls!
The plastic white measuring cup came to the mall too!
Roman and dabba had a blast!

Roman used Dabba to store his chips and sugar packets during lunch a Mi Cocina!

Dabba had a blast at the park with Roman!
Meg took Roman and Dabba down the slide!

It's a little harder to climb up the stairs with only one hand!
I hear these stages usually last only 2 weeks, but I have a feeling that Dabba is here to stay for a while! We sure do love our little Chef in the making!!! By the way, we need a new set of measuring cups for Christmas, Santa!

Guess what?!

We are so excited to finally announce that Roman is going to be a big brother! We found out in October and have been patiently waiting to announce it in our Christmas cards. Matt and I are so thrilled that God has blessed us with the opportunity to be parents to another baby! Baby Franks is scheduled to be done baking on June 24th. Roman has no idea that his life is going to forever change! I have been so much more sick this time around. I think it's partly because I can't come home and relax after work on the couch.
Instead, I'm chasing my handsome toddler around! We had an ultrasound yesterday and sweet baby looks to be very healthy and growing at a normal rate.

Blessed. That's how the Franks feel right now!

Crazy Thanksgiving 2010

Where do I even begin to start to describe our Thanksgiving?! We left Dallas after work on Monday night thinking that if we drove 6-1/2 hours in the night, Roman would sleep most of the way. Turns out Roman only slept a brief 45 minutes and was up until 1:30am when we finally arrived in Springfield. He apparently had pooped his pants and we never smelled it. Poor thing must have sat there for hours with a poopy diaper. No wonder he was crying most of the way. Needless to say, I felt like a HORRIBLE mother and we were all completely exhausted.

The major event of the the holiday was that my mom broke her ankle the week before while traveling in Israel. She had fallen and thought it was sprained pretty bad, but didn't realize how bad it was! She's a tough women! I took her to the doctor on Wednesday and they confirmed that she would have to have surgery. We scheduled the surgery for Friday after Thanksgiving. Until the surgery, she had to keep the foot propped up the entire time to reduce swelling. This left Matt and I cooking the entire Thanksgiving meal. We typically drive to my aunt and uncle's house for Thanksgiving, but my mom obviously could not travel the hour drive. She happened to have a turkey on hand, so Matt googled how to cook a turkey and we went from there! Elizabeth, my sister in law, graciously made the stuffing and cranberry dressing. Matt worked so hard cooking and cleaning too. I can honestly say it was the best turkey that I have ever had!

My mom rested with her foot propped up most of the weekend.
Our Thanksgiving meal with limited planning!

The entire time spent in Springfield, Roman decided to not be himself. He didn't eat much, slept horrible, and was so cranky and whiny the entire time. He was just off! I'm pretty sure he is teething too. It made everything so much harder on us! He did squeeze in some fun with his cousins, though!

Matt took a little break to watch some football!

One of my best friends from home, Sarah, came over with her son Carter. Roman was NOT going to take a picture with him!

Friday morning around 5:30 am, I drove my mom to the hospital to have her surgery. The plan was for Matt and I to leave town that afternoon because he had to fly/work early Saturday morning. While my mom was in surgery, Matt and I packed up the car and got everything ready to leave. Roman and Captain decided to throw up during this time! It was crazy! We just felt like Roman needed to get home. We stopped by the hospital to make sure she was okay and found out that she had to get 6 screws on one side of her ankle and 2 screws and a plate on the other! She was throwing up from the anesthesia and very weak and tired. The nurse asked who was going to stay with her for the first few days. I just started crying and said that I couldn't leave my mother in this condition. I was planning on my brother and sister-in-law staying with her, but just felt like she needed me. Needless to say, we stayed in town. Matt flew to work early Saturday morning and Roman and I stayed with my mom until Wednesday morning. Matt flew back in town on Tuesday afternoon when he got off work so he could drive Roman and I back home to Dallas. I emailed my work and they let me work from home Monday through Wednesday. So between working, helping my mom, and chasing Roman, it was a crazy week!

Andy and Elizabeth brought the girls over all day on Saturday. The kids played lots and had a dance party!

The only way I was able to cook for the family was for Roman to watch Elmo on my phone. Poor little guy has been SO needy lately!
Daddy came back!!! They played together lots!
Tuesday night my mom was talking to us and said she probably wouldn't get her Christmas tree out this year since she can't walk. Matt just thought that was ridiculous and went and put it up for her! We decorated a little bit before bed.
Roman tried to decorate with MeeMa too!
My mom is finally off of her pain medicine and is doing so much better. Through the crazy times, we still have so much to be thankful for! God is so good!!

Santa at Willow Bend

The weekend before Thanksgiving we met some of friends at Willow Bend Mall for some early morning Santa. Kristin came up with the great idea of going early in the season. The line was really short! The kids had a great time except for when Roman actually sat on Santa's lap!

What a classic crying photo!

We attempted a family photo!

School bus

On Friday mornings we like to look out the window and watch the school bus come by and pick up the neighborhood kids. Roman and Captain get so excited!!
