Our big boy is now 12 months old! I can't believe it's been a whole year that we've been blessed to be his parents! We went to the doctor on Friday, March 19th for his yearly check up.
Here are his stats:
Weight 24lb 10oz (75%)
Height 30" (55%)
Head Circ. 47-1/2" (80%)
Roman did pretty good at the doctor on Friday considering that he had 4 shots and had just gotten his ear tubes put in a couple of days earlier. Wednesday morning, (St. Patrick's Day) my mom and I took Roman to get his tubes and had to be in North Richland Hills for the surgery at 6:30am! We were home by 9am. Overall he did good and we found out from the doctor that he had a double ear infection! This reassured us that the tubes were necessary! Poor boy was just living with the pain of an ear infection! As we were leaving, he threw up in my arms in the parking lot from the anesthesia. It's so sad to see your baby sick! There was lots of blood and puss from the infection (sorry, gross I know!) coming out of his ears for the next few days. He's finally recovering and I really think that he's "babbling" and "talking" a lot more because he can actually hear! I'm so grateful that my mom was there to help me!!
Meema and Roman
Here's Roman at his 12 month check up. Big boy ate all of his snacks to keep him preoccupied while waiting for the doctor.
Turning one year old has brought on a lot of changes in our household...- Roman is now officially off of the bottle! I have him whole milk the morning of his birthday and we never went back. The day after his ear surgery, I gave him milk in sippy cups all day and realized that night that we never used a bottle that day! The next day, I packed up all of the bottles and put them up for the next baby. This big boy is only using sippys! Cold turkey worked for us! He is still not drinking much milk at all, though. He's only getting about 10 oz a day. We are in a transition period and hoping that he'll like the milk better in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, his doctor said that what we're doing is fine and to just make sure that he eats yogurt and cheese.
- Since Roman has been off of the bottle, he has been eating so much!! It is crazy to see how much food he can put down!! Last night he ate as much homemade vegetable lasagna as I did!! This is so different than the past couple of months. If he's hungry, then we feed him! Roman now eats lots of our homemade turkey/carrot meatloaf, veggie biscuits, veggie pasta dishes, tofu, strawberries, oranges, bananas, steamed carrots, french toast, and peanut butter. Yes, his pediatrician said that we could give pb to him and he loved it! Pretty much he'll eat almost anything we give him. I know this is probably just another phase, but we're hoping that he will continue to be a good eater.
- Roman is still in a size 4 diaper and wears size 18 month clothes. The 12 month are all too tight on his large belly and thick legs, but they are the right length. We have to roll up most of his 18 month pants. It's so funny!
- Our sweet boy claps, waves, and blows kisses quite a bit. I love that he's trying harder to communicate with us. His only real words are still "mama" and "dada". We're working on talking!
- I can now say, "Roman go get your ball" and he will. Then I will ask him to give it to daddy and he will walk right over to his daddy! I'm so proud of him! This just starting happening this week!
- Crawling is so long gone! I haven't seen this boy crawl in a long time. Running is seriously just around the corner!! Uh oh!
- Roman's nightly routine has changed a little since he doesn't get a bottle anymore. Matt will usually give him a bath and then I will give him some cold milk in a sippy cup. We then go brush his teeth. Right now he thinks it's cool! We'll see how long that lasts! Next we go in his room and I read the same book every night. "Good morning, Good night". Actually, I don't read it, I have it memorized! Ha! After reading the story, we turn out the light and I sing to him, "Amazing Grace" while rocking him. After a couple times through the song, I lay him down with his favorite blankie and luvie and he soothes himself to sleep. It's the same process every night!
What an amazing year! It's true, time really does fly when you're having fun!
Here's our silly boy!

I am so glad he is feeling better. I know that it will be so much better and easier!! He is so big!! I can't wait to play soon!!
SO glad the tubes went well & that he took to the sippy cup. That is awesome. Love the party pics too. Everything looked perfect!
So glad the tubes went OK I'm sure he'll feel so much better, you will too now that you don't have to go to the Doc so much. What a sweet face, I love the first one of him and your Mom. What a sweet relationship. Loving you!
Can't believe it's been that fast! And I'm glad to hear that the tube situation was a good choice for you. We toughed it out with JK through now and he seems to be doing much better. (Pede said he'd grow out of it.) But I still regret not pushing tubes with our pede. I think it would have saved us a lot of trouble and pain in the meantime.
Roman is doing great! He is such a sweet, smart big boy! I have loved watching him grow this past year and I'm glad those tubes are behind ya'll.
